I had very large fibroids and did not want to have a hysterectomy so first came to Miss Shirin Irani for a second opinion as she specialises in this area. She was very straightforward to talk to and very honest. The only way forward seemed to be an abdominal hysterectomy with the removal of tubes and ovaries. I did not want to be sent into immediate menopause with the removal of ovaries etc but I was assured that this would be neccessary due to the size of the fibroid (22cm). Miss Irani talked me through the process and through the wearing of hormone patches. It all made sense. She also thought she would have to do the operation through a vertical incision because of where the fibroid was sitting. I went ahead with the operation a month later and she managed to do the incision on the bikini line and the scar is now (8 weeks later) very fine and will probably be hardly noticeable. The op went well and the staff were fantastic. I suffered a lot with wind and am still suffering with a slow gut which makes my stomach feel very full and uncomfortable after eating. It presses on my scar area which is not nice. I put myself back on Movicol (after speaking with Miss Irani) and that has helped. I am back walking up our hills and trying to build my core muscles back up again. I feel so much better having had the fibroid removed and could not thank Miss Irani enough.
