Professor Jahangiri performed my quadruple bypass and aortic valve replacement after I began to get discomfort in my chest, which felt more like acid reflux. I had expected to be fitted with a stent, so the need for major surgery was a shock - but one of the nurses at the hospital whispered to me "Professor Jahangiri is THE best!", which of course made me feel a lot better. The operation should have taken place in March at St Anthony's Hospital, but was cancelled at the eleventh hour when the NHS 'requisitioned' the hospital for Covid-19 patients. It went ahead three months later at the Wellington Hospital. I understand Professor Jahangiri had never worked there before and that I was her first patient there. Fortunately she was assisted by her usual team. Thanks to her skills I was up and about very quickly, walking round the ward several times a day, to the extent that the nurses told me to slow down a bit. Professor Jahangiri visited me every day and I noticed she was polite to the hospital staff, unlike some specialists I've seen. My family even managed to contact her when, weeks later, I suffered two bouts of tachycardia and fibrillation, one of which was on a weekend. Apparently these are not uncommon after surgery, but my family did not know this, and she succeeded in reassuring them. Throughout my time under Professor Jahangiri, her secretary Nicole has been extremely helpful, responsive and informative, and always ready to chat. My life has hopefully been extended, maybe even saved, so my family and I shall be eternally grateful to the Professor.
