I found Dr Kathryn McCarthy/McCarthy Clinic at Litfield House Medical Centre after searching the Internet for a solution to my problem with anal skin tags. Various 'same-day' laser clinics came up however I decided that I would prefer to see a qualified colorectal surgeon and I'm so pleased that I did. Kathryn and her nurse are really great and made me feel totally comfortable throughout. Kathryn was also extremely thorough in describing the procedure and the aftercare that would be needed and I was sent away to think carefully abut the procedure before proceeding. I think this 'cooling-off' period was very important for me as it gave me time to read-up and consider all the consequences and to arrange a couple of days off work and no social engagements. The procedure itself, under local analeptic, was superb and I felt no discomfort or pain at all. Importantly, I also felt that my dignity was respected - after all, this is a very intimate procedure! I was only in the clinic for 90 minutes and most of this time was waiting for the numbing cream to take effect and then a 30 minute monitoring period afterwards, with a cup of coffee, before being discharged. I was sent home with really clear advice for after-care and some topical numbing cream. Once back home and the anaesthetic had worn off I was very uncomfortable and I was glad that I had taken time off work, however once the Ibuprofen and Paracetamol kicked in, the pain was manageable and I was able to get a good nights sleep. I needed the pain relief for the following 3 days but I did feel able to go about my usual day. I'm very pleased that I found Dr McCarthy and that I went ahead with this procedure. I would recommend her and the Litfield team 100%.
