My son has OCD with regards to his body being symmetrical. He becomes very anxious if he feels "unbalanced". He had surgery on 02/12/15 and Dr Mailoo was his anaesthetist. Dr Mailoo came to see us on the ward prior to the surgery and he spoke to my son about what would happen. He listened patiently to my sons concerns and answered all of his questions honestly and openly. Dr Mailoo agreed to a gas induction and to canulate my son whilst he was asleep to reduce his anxiety. He also agreed to placing an extra SATS probe on his hand so that his body remained balanced. He treated my son, who is 13yrs old, with respect and dignity. He spoke to him rather than at him and he really put him at ease. Dr Mailoo has a very caring nature and is certainly a calming influence. As a parent, I was naturally anxious about my son having an operation, Dr Mailoo talked me through every step of the anaesthetic process, taking great care alleviate my concerns without being patronising. He spent a long time with us, explaining everything but didn't make us feel that we were keeping him away from his work. When I collected my son from recovery, they had placed a "dummy" canula on his hand so he had 2 in place, this helped my son to remain balanced. I am eternally grateful to Dr Mailoo and his team for the wonderful work they do and how they treated my son.
