I was referred to Dr Ramakrishan after being diagnosed with coeliac disease (after at least 46 years of symptoms). At my first appointment, he was amazingly thorough in examining me physically and questioning about my history. He explained in detail what he knew so far, what he would find out and what I should and could do. He treated me as a person, not merely a patient. He answered many of my questions immediately with clear explanations and encouraged me to ask more. I had brought a list of concerns and he worked through all of them. There were some that could not be answered until tests were undertake,n some that would be answered with time, some that had no easy answer but were on a sliding scale - he explained all of this to me. He also told me where I could research more about my illness, its impact on my life and how to deal with it. This was exactly what I wanted and was encouraging. I was very reassured that I was getting the best of care. He ordered a lot of blood tests. The phlebotomists (nurses who take blood) rolled their eyes a little and implied that Dr Ram is a bit over the top in the number of bloods he orders. I'm not particularly fond of having bloods taken but I want to know that all tests have been done, all avenues have been explored and all that needs to be known is known. So, I'm glad he's so thorough. At subsequent visits, fewer bloods seem to required but I'm happy that I'm being monitored as closely as I need to be. I've had three appointments now with Dr Ram, each conducted in the same courteous and thorough manner. He is professional but not at all remote; he has a manner that is knowledgable, certain, calm, considerate, and understanding. This website asks for constructive suggestions on how the doctor could improve. All I can write is to keep on doing what he's doing. If you're unfortunate enough to need a gastroenterologist, then hope you get referred to him.
