Having read all the poor press reviews about Southmead Hospital, it was with some trepidation, when having experienced an heart attack in early October 2015 on a SATURDAY to be taken to A&E Southmead Hospital. I was taken to Resus where I was met by 2 nurses and a doctor. Their attention was immediate, they explained everything to me as they went about their work. The doctor had to research all my medication, and there is a lot, and sorted it all out within the hour, including contacting Liverpool to check on a research tablet that I was on. I was transfered to a ward for more checks and then found myself on the Cardiac unit. The attention I received on this unit was second to none. The staff were very pleasent, nothing was too much trouble for them, and so confident about their jobs that I immediatly relaxed, feeling that I would be well looked after. I started on a 4 bed ward and was transfered within 2 days onto a single ward. This room was as good as any hotel. I met this great doctor, Doctor Shahid Aziz on the Monday morning, and straight away felt I was in very safe hands. Through Dr Aziz and the Pharmacist Mr Robert Brown I had all my questions answered about what would happen and the medications I would receive through the days to come, what Dr Aziz suspected was wrong, and what he would do to put it right. Every procedure was explained fully and following extensive tests he performed a procedure on me to place 2 stents in my arteries leading to my heart. I could no believe how quick this was and how relaxed I felt throughout it all. Through all this they had to liaise with QEH Birmingham, with Professor David Mutimer about the tablets I'm on following a liver transplant I recieved 23 years ago. So a great big HURRAY and THANKS for the doctors and staff of the Cardiology Unit, Oh, and Dr Aziz turned up on the Saturday morning (only a week after arriving in an Ambulance) to personally discharge me....!!!!
