My problems started with numbness in my toes, then feet, then ankles and eventually reached the nether region. During this progression over several months I was seen by a Rheumatology specialist and we chased several red herrings. When it reached the nether region she was concerned about the possibility of Causa Equina and referred me to GWH for an urgent MRI. This revealed trapped spinal cord at no.3 vertebrae and no.5 to a lesser extent. At this stage I was introduced to Mr Bhatia who showed me the MRI, discussed the options and danger of not taking immediate action. I was admitted that day, operated next day 2 1/2 hours and back home 2 days later. The incisions healed quickly dressing removed after 2 weeks and feeling is returning slowly starting at the top and I hope finishing at my toes but I am well aware it will be a long process. What a fantastic man he is. So calm and skilled. He is as good at conveying the situation as he is operating . You are safe in his hands.
