Having been diagnosed with Dupuytrens in 2020 I decided to research what treatments were available after being advised my local NHS only operate once a finger has started contracting. I read about Dr Shaffer through the British Dupuytrens Society website and how radiotherapy may help this condition and contacted his practice. At the time I had 2 painful nodules on my right hand and while my left hand was painful, there were no visible lumps. On my initial consultation, Dr Shaffer clearly explained the radiotherapy procedure, made me aware that for some patients it may not work and answered any questions I had which helped me decide to have the treatment. He marked up both hands, identifying areas where further nodules later appeared. After my first 5 day radiotherapy session I emailed Dr Shaffer with a query and he very promptly responded and that was reassuring. The staff at Genesis Care in Chelmsford looked after me with kindness and consideration and put me at ease me throughout the process. They were contactable if I was concerned about anything both during and after my treatment. Having now completed my radiotherapy I’m hoping it will be successful. I would like to thank Dr Shaffer and the staff at Genesis Chelmsford for everything you have done.
