I felt the care my daughter recieved was beyond any expectations I had. She was born very small and premature and has spent over 4 months at the department early last year. The level of professionalism and knowledge of the staff is amazing. The greatest advantage of the neonatal department is the staff members and their attitude. The consultants made me feel at ease and explained things very well. The nurses were caring and professional. The breast milk team were very knowledgeable and approachable for help. Any concerns I had about the care of my daughter was treated respectfully and promptly. The unit as a whole was extreamly clean and encouraged us to help infection control to the best of our ability. I also benefited from the input of a "SALT" advisor. The nurse we had most often whilst in critical care 1 was Tracy and I am in awe of her attitude, capability, professionalism and energy that she seems to have every single day, she filled me with confidence in a our very difficult situation. Other members of staff that I feel are exceptional are Amy, Janice, Maria, Armida and Marie (breast feeding nurse). The only areas of improvement I feel are financial barriers, I feel the department could benefit from a microwave for the parents room and clinically my daughters treatment may have been optimised by a Breast milk analyser. My daughters stay at the unit was very long and I feel the visiting arrangements could be made more flexible in certain situations as my brother and sister never saw their neice for nealy 5months and will never truly appreciate how far she has come. Overall I come away with a deep respect for anyone working in a neonatal department and would like to thank the team for all their support during such a difficult time in my life.
