Written by a NHS patient at Basildon Hospital
17th February 2023

Dr Sanghi performed my endoscopy at Basildon Hospital. It is difficult to comment on how well he performed the procedure itself but he did nothing to reassure me or to explain what was happening, instead barking instructions at me from the corner of the treatment room as I climbed onto the examination couch. He didn’t even introduce himself. He sneered when one of the nurses was asked to hold my hand during the procedure (I had asked for this to prevent me from trying to pull the endoscope out of my mouth as this had happened on a previous occasion). He asked why this was necessary, but had already fitted the guard into my mouth which prevented me from responding. I have previously had an endoscopy performed privately and I’m sad to say the way that I was treated by the consultant then was totally different. I’m a great supporter of the NHS, but I do feel that there was a lot more that could have been done by the consultant to improve my experience on this occasion. The nurses however were wonderful. Very kind and considerate.
