Written by a carer
2nd September 2015

I visited with my Mum who has C.O.P.D and needs Oxygen 24 hrs per day. This was a follow up apointment after her being admitted to A.R.I in Jan 2015. Dr Dempsey was very friendly and asked Mum who I was and introduced himself to me. He explained and let us see her Jan scan and the new scan. He explained things in terms that we could understand and used minimal medical terms that probably we wouldn't understand. He went through the large list of pills and inhalers with Mum and asked her what they were for. But she knew them all. I felt that we could ask him anything. And we did. And he took time to answer the questions. We didn't feel (like many doctors) that he was rushing to get you out again. There is nothing more that the chest clinic can do for mum so there is no need for mum to attend every 6 mths now. So sadly we probably will not meet him again. Which is a shame. A very nice, friendly, kind man. You can tell he's a carer and not just there for a job. Thank you and a pleasure meeting you. Muriel Thomson & Coleen Forrest
