My husband was referred by a psychiatrist to find if there were physical reasons as well as mental for his sudden deterioration - a feeling I certainly had. We attended his clinic and were seen very promptly. My impression was that Dr Heafield knew almost immediately what the diagnosis was. He was able to show me scans with simple explanations where the problem was. There was a hint of humour when my husband turned right instead of left when assessing his gait. He gave me simple directions as to what aids I might need as the disease progressed. He told me who he was referring us to and why it was important to have a hospice referral for the future. Perhaps I was glad to have a diagnosis however challenging it was. but I certainly don't recognise the person described in other reviews. I have run an OutPatient department and worked with numerous consultants and Dr Heafield appeared to me to be clear, kind, empathic and professional.
