Hi I just written a review with regard to Dr Mandy Leonhardt but I wanted to add a couple of other points. She listened to me and to all my concerns but not only that, she tested my ferritin levels and we found out that I had low levels which is different from checking iron levels. It might have explained my fatigue. Something other doctors don’t seem to take notice of because my actual iron levels weren’t as low. Also, because I potentially have an autoimmune condition of coeliac disease and can’t eat gluten and dairy, I was worried about my joint pain and possibility of having calcium deficiency, Dr Mandy Leonhardt arranged for me to have a bone density scan, DEXA scan. I have found out that I have osteopenia, the stage before osteoporosis. If I hadn’t found this out, I wouldn’t have known as the NHS don’t routinely scan women until they are in their 50s or 60s. I’m 43. I can at least get advice on the right type of exercise and minerals to improve my bone health and avoid potential fractures in the future. I have also found out that Oestrogen is the licensed product for osteoporosis according to NICE which I am taking now anyway. When I previously asked my GP about the impact of not eating dairy or fortified cereals as all gluten free ones don’t have added calcium, I was dismissed and told that if I reacted to dairy and didn’t eat it anymore then “where was the concern.” It is clear now from my bone density scan that I need to take calcium and other minerals to help improve this. Something so simple yet my GP never alerted me to it. My insomnia and sleep problems have improved hugely since starting my hormone therapy. Thank you Dr Mandy Leonhardt for taking the time and care to ensure all my concerns were addressed.
