Doctor listened. I needed attention after suffering a bite I was allergic to. It was from a Blandford Fly, which will be tricky for the practice to recognise if there has been no press attention locally. I suffered for seven years and had to do my own research online at the surgery local to where I lived in South London prior to the surgery understanding there was such a thing in the area. My advice would be given the Blandford fly has been epidemic in Herts to at least check out the symptoms and what, if early recognition of the bite is not identified (which could easily happen if it's not been presented formally to the surgery) could be the next painful steps, including rapid acceleration of cellulitis. I felt the doctor listened to my concerns about both my episode, and the fact I undersrood it could be easily dismissed as a slight reaction to a bite. If not caught quickly and ministered with antibiotics, the patient may end up with far greater issues so more oainful to them, and more time consuming and expensive for the surgery to treat. The doctor was superb in his attention. I also felt he took my concerns, and those for the practice, seriously. That said, the Blandford fly is so small often it's left the body, blood sated, before the sting is felt, so on exit, but even if the bite is felt, it's natural to swat at, scratch at, the irritation, which is why it spreads it's poison as effectively. Sorry this is so long but the doctor really did help me greatly and I do feel it as important to share that as well as urging the practoce doctors to familiarise themselves with the information online, including the NHS site. If you've not had experience of it being local there's a good chance you may not have heard of it. Many thanks.
