I first met Dr Gharib in 2010 when I was diagnosed with Follicular Lymphoma. Hearing for the first time that you have cancer is terrifying but Dr Gharib instantly reassured me and from this I gained a positive outlook which is needed when hearing this news. Throughout my dealings with Dr Gharib I have found him to be very approachable, patient, honest, reassuring and very caring. Following successful Radiotherapy treatment I was monitored on a regular basis for the next 4 years. Unfortunately, my cancer returned in 2014 with a diagnosis of Diffuse Large B Cell Lymphoma. This time Dr Gharib recommended RCHOP chemotherapy instead of Radiotherapy as the best solution to attack the tumour. His eye for detail in spotting small changes in other lymph nodes was his reasoning behind this. I successfully completed my 6 sessions and I am now undergoing maintenance therapy for 2 years. Towards the end of the RCHOP treatment I picked up a virus which my depleted immune system was unable to deal with. I was admitted to Whiston Hospital in Ward 2A under the care of Dr Gharib. I received excellent nursing care from all the team and my sepsis condition was successfully treated. Whilst being admitted to hospital I was told that the duty doctor had spoken to Dr Gharib at home at 11:30pm at night and that he had prescribed my medication and was being kept fully informed of my wellbeing. It was extremely reassuring for me and my family to learn that my consultant was so involved in my treatment. He visited me on the ward and fully reassured me that I would get over this hurdle and make a full recovery. I was discharged in time to spend Christmas with my family and I do not feel this would have been possible without the care and attention from Dr Gharib and his wonderful team. I cannot thank him enough for saving my life and for the ongoing care, attention, medical expertise and reassurance that I receive at each visit. He is an asset to Whiston Hospital, his team and the NHS. James McGuire Patient
