I recently had a partial knee replacement at the BMI hospital in Bury St Edmonds, Suffolk. Dr Jonathan Nicholson came tothe ward to see me and explained to me the new system they were using when doing knee replacements.I believe this was called a nerve block. It entailed having an injection into the back which numbed my body from the waste down. After havng this I then had the surgery on my knee. When the surgery was complete I was taken to the recovery area for about fifteen minutes and then returned to the ward.Ittook a little while for the numbness to go but afterwards I had no after effects at all and I would certainly recommend this system to anyone having knee surgery
