I saw Dr.Seenan a couple of weeks ago at Gartnavel General, outpatients and found him to be a very upbeat and caring type of person. I am overweight and not once was my weight mentioned throughout the consultation. He suggested I have a Sigmoidoscopy and he felt because of my disabilities that a full Colonoscopy would be a bit much for me. I appreciated very much that he took this into consideration. Yesterday I had a Sigmoidoscopy, which I was a bit nervous about to begin with, so had arranged to have gas and air, as you do not normally have sedation as such for this test. I ended up not using the gas and air as I coped well with the procedure. I found Dr.Seenan to be just so lovely and very professional indeed. He made me feel very at ease, so much so that he ended up seeing much more of my bowel than first intended. This procedure was neither painful nor in any way upsetting! I can only say good things about this Doctor and would not worry in the slightest if I were to be referred again in the future to see him. Considering what I went to the hospital for, I would say that it was actually quite a pleasant experience and that is down to Dr.Seenan and the nursing staff who work there.

I saw Dr Seenan after a significant change in bowel habits. I have SLE (lupus) & have had IBS for years but this was very different. From the outset he listened, asked lots of questions & answered my questions. At no point did I feel rushed. After assessment he suggested a stool sample, ultrasound, gastroscopy & colonoscopy . After each test I always received a letter updating me with the results. The ultrasound showed a kidney stone which I didn't know I had & he said he'd speak to Urology with the results. All in all I felt Dr Seenan was an excellent doctor & couldn't have asked for better treatment.

Background: I am obese and was attending weight management where I had lost 3 stone, I had to stop when persistent vomiting lead to me not keeping anything but liquid down. • This continued - sick 2+ times a day every day for roughly 7 months. • I eventually couldn't walk the length of myself and was passing out. My skin was also as white as now and I was extremely fatigued. • after being rushed to hospital I needed 3 blood transfusions and kept in for 2 weeks as ALL my blood levels dropped from 138 to 21 in the space of a month and was going to keep dropping. • stomach was checked and everything was fine so they put it down to a blood problem which is still being investigated. I was told this blood issue was NOT DOWN TO WEIGHT. The appointment; I had a phone call weeks after being released from hospital saying it was urgent to me to have an appointment with the gastro dept. I initially this was maybe due to them finding a disease/illness that caused my blood problem. I went there and was seated with my step mum, dr seenan, a student doctor and myself. He asked what the problem was and I mentioned that I us been vomiting and the blood issues. As soon as I mentioned it he utterly dismissed my vomiting and said it was my obesity giving me 'acid reflux'. I mentioned that I'd never once had to take peptic or rennies. My symptoms matched up more to Cyclic Vomiting Syndrome than it did acid reflux. He purely looked at me and blamed my weight than actually LISTENING to my symptoms and the history. He then went on to look frustrated and said there nothing he can do for acid reflux and didn't know why I was there when the endoscope I received showed everything was fine. Anyway, I mentioned to him that I genuinely thought I was there for the bloody problem as the doctors in hospital wanted to see if there was a disease/illness from a gastro side of things that could cause issues. Seenan then sighed in exasperation (no need for it) and asked 'what EXACTLY is wrong with your blood? I got a referral from your GP for vomiting not anything to do with blood'. I explained and he said 'ugh, that's just a dietary thing - you don't actually have a blood issue'. I was furious as was my step mum who also received attitude when defending me when he said about my weight, he is in NO WAY A HAEMATOLOGIST!! He had no right whatsoever. The end of the appointment was him reluctantly offering to look at my stools to see if there was this one disease that could affect my blood. Overall, a rude doctor who has a thing against over weight patients and I'm not even exaggerating! If you look at his thesis which is public domain you will see that there is a whole chapter dedicated to obesity and Gastro issues. One scientific experiment that I read in his thesis even said that larger people have LESS stomach acid than their smaller counterparts. But he dismissed this entirely and when with a theory than the scientific proof. Avoid unless you enjoy getting treated like a second class citizen.
