I have been talking to a really nice rheumatologist on the telephone but couldn't get a face to face with him. So I was given an appointment with Jananath. I was kept waiting for 10 minutes, assuming he was reading my notes, I didn't mind. He started reading the most recent letter to me aloud. I hadn't receipt & couldn't take it what he was saying as he was reading too slow. I got up knowing I could read quicker & retain the information better. I was to to sit down in a manner that didn't elicit care. I sat and waited while he read the 1sr letter I'd received. Assuming we were going to discuss this & things that has happened since my last call and other things I hadn't mentioned. He shut me down. I tried to tell him another of his colleague has seen this issue in my hands but all an osteopath. He said I'm the expert, I will tell you. Again, the time was awful and I tried to explain that we are only as good as our current knowledge. Giving him an example of some help I'd suggest to my GP several decades a go, thatw as now a common treatment of which is been referred to in recent years. Again, wouldn't let me talk and wasn't interested in what I had to say. I'd o erheard the rheumatologist next door dealing with her patient. She'd asked him why he was there, given him time to explain it from his point of view. Then started asking him questions, very kind from what I could hear. He gave me a cursory examination. He did not examine the areas the other Dr had wanted to see. I explained I wa sin pain & movement restricted. That I had a change in flexibility so I wasnt able to move well. There was a wrist/thumb extension he wanted to see. I explained it was painful and far too painful in my other hand. He carried on insisting I cause musler pain to show him my right hand, I had to enforce I wouldn't do this. As it was I was experiencing pain from the left (this last several hours afterwards). He did not check my body or joints to asses the pain I was in. However, he wrote this in his unprofessional letter that seemed to be based on emotion. I said I had read that some people with low levels of movement has greater physical symptoms, he rubbished the organisation and said the has not medical basis and we're just opinion. I came home to find a leader in their field, a top rheumatologist was instrument in the information on their site. I subsequently found other expert saying the same. That range of movement was necessarily an indicator and peer reviewed too. So having identified gaps in his knowledge, I feel he may not have as much expertise as he thought, we are only as good as what we know. That id we assume we know everything, we miss things and make mistakes. I tried to ask why regarding anumber of things and what we did next as many other conditions had similar symptoms. He was curt, I don't know, there's nothing I can do for you. I tried to say again, but all the soft tissue pain and the joints are rheumatyand surely we must not investigate other angles if he was sure he'd for this right. He wasn't interested and basically shooed me from the room after 15mins. It was clear that I was upset, I advised this has been decades of no answers and constant appointments. I ended up sitting in my vehicle crying. On looking at the letter he sent, he says he checked for joint pain, he didn't. He takes my words out of context and states that I said he had no expertise and has wasted my time. I had tried to say that the appointments were no local and took nearly an hour to get to driving. That to be left without further thought, was a waste of my time. However, he took everything out do context and made me look really bad. I would not recommend seeing him and I never want to have such an experience or be in consultation with him again. It seems his speciality is osteoporosis care and while has knowledge of soft tissue issues it isn't his lead speciality. This might suggest why he isn't up to date with the issues I face I was seen in Harpenden under the private company Connect Health.
