Where do I begin, as words cannot convey my gratitde to Dr Maksoud?! I have known Dr Maksoud since August 2007. My son, who was only 21 at the time, was diagnosed with a Macroprolactinoma in July 2007, which had initially been picked up at a routine optician’s appointment. As the tumour was caused by an excess amount of the hormone Prolactin, he very fortunately did not need surgery but was to be treated by medication. This is when we met Dr Maksoud, who as an Endocrinologist would take over David’s treatment with medication. This quite literally was one of the worst times of our lives and Dr Maksoud with his patience, concern, compassion and expertise got us through that time. To begin with as my son’s Prolactin levels were reduced from an extremely high level of 88,892 million per litre in August 2007, My son, together with myself and my husband, saw Dr Maksoud every month to begin with, then as his condition improved greatly, to every 6 months. My son has done remarkably well, he is totally transformed from the struggling, self-conscious and sickly young man who first met Dr Maksoud, to a happily married man who went on to achieve a Master of Arts Degree. Without any shadow of doubt, I credit Dr Maksoud with this transformation. I quite literally believe that he saved my son’s life and in my eyes, the man is a ‘saint’. He explained absolutely every detail of the treatment, constantly asking if we had any questions. We have never felt rushed, he has always put us at our ease and he is happy to answer any questions that I, in particular would have and believe me I had plenty to ask, as this was my child. My son could not be in better hands and he is still monitored by Dr Maksoud every 6 months. Since 2016, my husband has also been seeing Dr Maksoud as a patient. Dr Maksoud has diagnosed him with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME). He also has Neo Cardiogenic Syncope. Again, we have seen Dr Maksoud every 6 months since early 2016. My daughter-in-law is also a patient now. To summarise, I regard Dr Maksoud to be an absolute expert in his field, compassionate, jovial and a thoroughly decent, lovely man. He explains every aspect of the treatment, often drawing diagrams to help us ‘lay’ people understand. To put it another way, I do not know how old Dr Maksoud is, I am sure he is a lot younger than me, but I dread the day he says he is retiring, as I cannot bear the thought of him not being there for my family. I have trusted him with my child’s life and he has come good on that and long may his care continue.
