My friend has just been given a diagnosis of terminal cancer, sarcoma initially, now metastases in the liver, due to language barriers and also to support her I have attended most of her appointments. I'm an health professional and I have to say that meeting Dr H Hatcher has been a true blessing... Dr Hatcher spent 2h30m talking with her patient and making her aware of her diagnosis and treatment options, her kindness, calm demeanour, professional but human attitude towards my friend has made me think how proud I am to work for the NHS and I feel so grateful that people like Dr Helen exist. We left Addenbrookes Hospital feeling sad but blessed that my friend's care is in the hands of such an amazing person. At any stage of the consultation the patient felt pressured to leave or to refrain from asking questions, it was quite the opposite, Dr Hatcher asked her variour times directly how she was feeling and what she was thinking, giving her the opportunity to be clarified in every single aspect of her diagnosis and further management. We are so thankful to Dr Hatcher.
