Dr Barker was an excellent anaesthetist for my procedure (Brachioplasty). From the beginning he explained what would happen at all stages, and was very thorough with his pre-op checks. He talked me through what he was doing before I went to sleep, telling me what he was doing the whole time. His colleague Megan was also very pleasant and helpful.

Dr Barker was the anaesthetist for my intradural tumour excision on February 25, 2022. He was extraordinary on multiple counts, in the run up to surgery and in the aftermath of surgery. In what was quite a daunting situation (awaiting a major surgery, alone, due to Covid restrictions), he blended empathy, communication, attention to detail, experience, and skill to ensure I went into surgery reassured and calm. In the immediate aftermath of surgery, I would often awake to find Dr Barker having popped in to just check how I was doing and to ask after my family. Not for one moment did he convey anything other than attention to excellence, 100% focus on the patient, and extraordinary empathy.

Dr Barker is the most incredibly caring anaesthetist. He gave me excellent care pre and post surgery, and spent considerable time discussing my concerns, without ever making me feel I was wasting his time. He was chosen by my neurosurgeon, Mr Chaudhary, and together they made an excellent team, compassionate, caring and helpful at every step. I thoroughly recommend Dr Barker.

The Consultant who was carrying out my procedure had indicated that he preferred to work with Dr Barker when undertaking private work. However, although Dr Barker was not specifically chosen by me, I would have no hesitation whatsoever in recommending him to anyone. His manner was very pleasant and patient and he answered questions with the impression of having all the time in the world. When it was time for my anaesthetic he was very caring and explained exactly what he was doing while getting me ready for surgery. He also came to check on me post-surgery and to agree the medication I would be taking over the next few days and weeks.

I came to the Manor hospital Oxford to have open septorhinoplasty and the one thing I was most scared about out of the whole procedure was anesthetiser. Dr Barker came to see me before surgery and checked all of the information about me. We had a chat and I told him my fears he was professional and kind and told me I wasn’t the only person who had been frightened about anesthetiser, I felt a bit better. When it was time to go to theatre Dr Barker came to get me and we walked there together we chatted on the way and I felt so much better. The whole process of being prepared for surgery was not scary at all With Dr Barker, my surgeon and another wonderful woman called Katie doing everything they could to make me feel happy and relaxed I almost felt like I was on holiday! I woke up and felt fine and needless to say I survived! I was taken great care of and the great manner that Dr Barker showed me really made a difference.
