I have previously left a glowing review on this site for Dr Janes but have since had a terrible experience with her. I have a history of an eating disorder (bingeing) - something that I went into great detail about in my first session. I weighted 14st in my twenties and have been at a healthy 9st for the last two years. I am happy with my weight but always worry about gaining. I have been taking antidepressants since I was diagnosed with an eating disorder. I saw Dr Janes for advice on how to best treat night sweats, a side-effect of some anti-depressants. Dr Janes switched me to a new drug however this did not help. She then prescribed me an anti-histamine (Periactin) for the sweats. I took this for a couple of weeks, and started to feel like a was gaining weight - the scales were rising and my clothes were tighter. This continued and 4 weeks after started Periactin, I weighed 10 stone - I have gained this in less that 4 weeks. Dr Janes decided she couldn't be bothered to tell me the side-effects of this medication - one of it's primary uses being an appetite stimulant to help underweight patients gain weight. When I confronted her, she said casually 'oh, did I not tell you the side effects?' - clearly not, I would never have agreed to take this knowing a major side effect is weight gain!!! Truly awful experience with her, I feel more depressed than ever (ironic, seeing as I was looking for help with antidepressants). Dr Janes did not listen to a word I said and just prescribed the first thing she could think of.
