My pre-operation assessment review determined that, due to my prior medical history of Ankylosing Spondylitis and Wolf Parkinson White, that a senior Anaesthetist would be required during my surgical procedure. This would be my first surgery and anaesthesia at the age of 71. Dr. David Uncles provided general anaesthesia for my TURIS operation at Worthing Hospital on August 10th, 2016. Dr. Uncles deportment, communication and listening skills gave me confidence in him from the outset. During our pre-operation discussion at my hospital bed and in the ante-room adjacent to the operating theatre immediately prior to surgery, all aspects of what was being undertaken in relation to anaesthesia was communicated in a calm, reasoned manner. The decision to opt for general anaesthesia instead of a spinal anaesthetic was clearly explained to me and understood. I had no problems in recovery from anaesthesia. Dr. Uncles visited me at my hospital bed post operation, reaffirmed his decisions and actions and confirmed that I was well recovered. He followed this up with a letter to me which, due to my medical history, could be presented to any anaesthetists involved in any future anaesthetic management. Dr. Uncles provided exceptional care and attention to me in all aspects of anaesthesia, especially given the complexities with which he was confronted during the procedure.
