I was a patient of Dr. David Suttleworths’ for very many years, seeing him as both an outpatient and an inpatient in the old Essex County Hospital. I had previously been treated by a consultant who never actually looked at most of my chronic eczema and Dr Shuttleworth just looked at the lot and came up with a gameplan which started on the bottom rung of the ladder and gradually climbed to the top. He was successful and I was a success and in due course I was freed from a body covered in itchy oozing scabs to a bright and cheery young woman. It took some time and then after very many years I overlooked an appointment and the NHS saw fit to say that was it. I took that very personally as I had always been a good attender as the visits were so terribly important to me. I gradually stopped taking the azathioprine and have been lucky enough to continue with only the mildest patches of eczema and in no way life altering. Whether or not there is a real link, I have now a condition known as lichen scloerosus which has me attending hospital and being seen by a gynaecologist and Dr. Shuttleworth’s one time nurse, Sue, who is as lovely now as she was back then. So I would rate this doctor 10/10 with a terrific knowledge of most things and ALL things dermatological. I really hope this charming doctor gets to read my review and if he should I would like just to add an amusing anecdote when he had a student and pointed to part of my face that ‘had atrophied.’ I so wanted to say….’hey, that’s my face you’re talking about!! A very sincere thank you to this doctor. I won’t see him again but he really gave me my life back. xx
