Monday 16 November, appointment with Dr Targett for steroid injection in left thumb for Arthritis. He said I would feel some discomfort. He was Wrong ,very Wrong it was very painful. He stated that the pain would ease and to take Paracetamol to help. The pain grew worse as the day progressed, and continued into the night. In the early hours of Tuesday morning I dialled 111 and was advised to attend A&E at Shrewsbury hospital. Examined on reception and the doctor prescribed Morphine for the pain. I was the seen by an Orthopaedic doctor who examined the thumb an fitted a large brace to prevent my using it . I was then sent home and was given an appointment for Wednesday am at the Orthopaedic department. After examination by a doctor who told me to keep the brace on and keep taking the pain killer’s and he would see me again in 1 week (24 nov). This has been the most painful experience of my life and for the benefit of other’s I would ask you to rethink your procedures

Response from Dr Chris Targett

Dear Patient, I'm shocked and deeply sorry to hear that you had such an adverse reaction to the joint injection. This is very rare indeed and I'm deeply sorry for my part in causing you pain. Hand on my heart this is the first negative outcome I have ever seen from one of my joint injections and I will most definitely reflect on it. I would very much like to discuss this with you if you wish. Please do contact the surgery if you have any concerns about anything we do rather than just leaving your feedback here. I hope you are in a much better situation now. Best wishes, Dr Chris
