I found the Pain Management Clinic to be a mixed experience. Dr Bharati Vyawahare was very patient and took the time to listen to how my pain affects me. For the most part I felt she understood me, but there were times when I felt she'd misinterpreted what I was saying, and telling me that I felt less pain than I actually do. It's sometimes hard to explain exactly how the pain feels in different positions and circumstances (i.e. walking or sitting on a chair as opposed to sitting on the toilet). Overall Dr Vyawahare was very kind and listened attentively. I was disappointed by the options on offer to reduce my pain. I did not feel convinced that a steroid injection to my abdomen would work, and I don't like the idea of going on antidepressants with the objective of curing neuropathic pain. It's a shame there isn't something that can be taken orally that doesn't have an effect on your mental health. There were no other options suggested to me. Dr Vyawahare was happy to refer me for psychological support. She was helpful and eager to go whatever she could do help me. She examined my stomach and her manner was gentle and caring.
