Dr Levison was in charge of my anaesthesia during three different operations at the Princess Margaret Hospital. I simply cannot praise him enough. I have fairly difficult, thin veins, but he never seemed to have a problem with any of that. With other, even very experienced, anaesthetists, after operations, when the cannula in my hand is taken out, I have a sore hand for up to ten days. That never happened with Dr Levison. He chats so pleasantly, finding out about your interests, thus keeping the patient’s mind occupied while he gets on with his work. But at the same time you can see he’s incredibly serious about what he is doing. Before that, Dr Levison is very thorough with the pre-operative questionnaire, and is happy to explain anything that is unclear. Since English is not my mother tongue, and he speaks quite fast, I did ask him to repeat a couple of details, but my husband, who was with me in the room, said it was perfectly clear to him, so it was definitely me! In brief, there is nobody else I would like by my side, if at all possible, when I am at my most vulnerable and my life and future health is at stake. Of course I wish that I never had needed to undergo surgery in the first place, but since it was unavoidable I can only be grateful that people like Dr Levison exist, and I was lucky to have bern assigned to him.
