Dr Birtle has been treating me for cancer for some while now. As a person she is a delight to be with, energetic, erudite and urbane. However, her medical prowess is legion. For example, during radiotherapy, I suffered from radiation induced diarrhoea which was quite life limiting given the suddenness of its onset. Whilst not in her purview, she had spoken with fellow professionals and established that very often this is caused by a temporary lactose intolerance. So I tried a lactose free diet and bingo, it sorted out the problem. Additionally, I have continued this, well after the treatment has finished, as it has improved my general health and well-being.
This is just a small example demonstrating how Dr Birtle goes the extra mile for her patients.
