I met Dr Abbas for a consultation after a recent diagnosis of osteoporosis in my spine. I saw him at the new DxaStrong muscle and bone Health Clinic in Leeds. I found him very approachable and he fully answered all my questions which had not been answered by my GP. A diagnosis of osteoporosis is life changing and made me feel anxious about the changes I would need to make to my lifestyle. The NHS waiting list to be seen at the Bone Clinic is a year so I chose to see Mr Abbas privately so that I could feel that I was informed about the condition and able to start some osteogenic loading exercises with DxaStrong with the aim of reversing some of my bone loss. The guidelines suggest that I do not need medication for this condition until I have a fractured bone which seems at odds with the concept of preventative medicine. I found it reassuring that I can access expertise, scans and exercise by self referral and I would recommend any women over 50 with a family history of osteoporosis talks to their GP about getting screened for osteoporosis as it is very under diagnosed. I recommend Dr Abbas his expert care and advice.
