Upon meeting Professor Gatrad, you will realise that in his profession, he is utterly resolute to offer teaching to his students, guiding his colleagues and caring for his patients. His articulate teaching methods allow you to comprehend difficult concepts as easily as you would a simple one. In fact he makes learning very simple, logical and memorable. One of the more difficult situations a doctor will face is how to approach a fretful child and a worried parent. Professor Gatrad has demonstrated many times that genuine care and attention and communicating simply but effectively can go a long way. His gentle and playful demeanour towards children and their parents makes them feel at ease from the beginning of the consultation to the end. Fortunately, I had a chance to spend some time with him as a student and colleague and I witnessed on many occasions that the service of care he provides does not confine him to the scope of his job. Such as if a patient is in need of a particular test or results from a previous investigation and telephone enquiry is proving troublesome, he will go to the department in a different area of the hospital (teaching his students along the way!) to retrieve the results. I would like to conclude that I was glad to have been taught from such a sincere and humble person as Professor Gatrad.
