I cant speak highly enough of Dr Azeem Thahir. He saw me at Colchester General Hospital last night after I had fallen from our loft ladder and banged my head sufficiently hard to knock me out temporarily and cause concussion. He knew what he was doing because he said that as I was taking apixaban he would order a CT scan to check there was no bleed onto the brain as well as no broken neck or skull. He tested the response of my eyesight and insisted I lie flat on the trolley even though it hurt my neck because that was the best position for someone who had had that kind of accident. He was calm, assured and professional. He said I would have a wait of about an hour, so he was ‘managing our expectations’ as it were. He came back after perhaps 5 or so minutes to explain he had booked the CT scan. We (my wife and I) were surprised when he came back again perhaps half an hour later to explain that we had not gone through to the CT department yet because there had been several admissions as a result of two road accidents which took priority. That was really kind of him so we weren’t left wondering if we had been forgotten: he was re-assuring us we hadn’t. Then he accompanied me on the trolley to the CT department. After the scan I was told it would be about 40 minutes before the results were known/interpreted. In fact within that time Dr Thahir came to see us and told us there was no bleed to the brain nor any broken bones. He removed my canula, told me to rest for the next 48 hours, made sure my wife would be in the house the whole of that time and gave us a leaflet about signs and symptoms following a bang on the head. He really could not have been more caring, professional and competent. We both thought he had ‘gone the extra mile’. So a big round of applause for Dr Thahir. Regards Christopher and Nola Bloor

Dr Thahir was very reassuring to me and explained everything he needed to do before he done it to put me at ease. He was very friendly and joked along with me again making me feel as comfortable as possible
