I can unreservedly recommend Mr Adrian Fairbank and all his team at Wimbledon Clinics to anyone requiring a total knee replacement: After tolerating degenerative cartilage pain in both knees for quite some years – temporarily relieved, to some extent, by arthroscopies – Mr Fairbank had no difficulty persuading me to opt for total replacements of both knees. His professional, thorough diagnosis coupled with attentiveness and a compassionate attitude - and the trouble taken to answer all my questions - ensured a trusting relationship. My wife’s concerns were equally not neglected. Any hesitations I might have had in going ahead were quickly dispelled. After faithfully following the recommended pre-op exercises my right knee was successfully replaced by Mr Fairbank and his Parkside Hospital surgery team 10 months ago. Recovery was almost pain-free. The regular physical checks coupled with the post-op hydro and land therapy sessions ensured excellent progress was made and there was no difficulty accepting Mr Fairbank’s recommendation to proceed with replacement of my left knee. This was successfully carried out 4 months ago. Whilst understanding that no two knees necessarily recover in the same timeframe, once again the experience was painless and faster progress was made on all fronts. Mr Fairbank is supported by a full professional team who contributed in their different ways to my wellbeing. All, without exception, went out of their way to help and encourage me at all stages during the in-patient and subsequent recovery process. I am indebted to the nursing staff for their friendliness, dedication and patience - underlined by the unexpected warmth with which I was greeted on revisiting just to have my dressings checked out. The hydro and land physiotherapy staff are second to none. Without their guidance, encouragement and fine-tuning of my exercise regime, particularly for the post-op daily stints at home, progress would have been very difficult indeed. There were no exceptions to the warmth and helpfulness which I encountered at all points from receptionists, back-room staff, porters, etc, etc. The replacements have ensured I now have totally pain-free knees with unrestricted mobility. Much time has had to be devoted to the daily follow-up exercises, Cryo-Cuff cooling, Knee Hab muscle stimulation and Bio Oil scar massaging, but, gratifyingly, I am now back even to my full norm gym regime. Power-walks have been resumed and I will return to playing doubles tennis next month. The tricky challenge previously presented by the descent of subway stairs is a distant memory. Life will return to full normality when I recommence my business trips to Japan next month.
