My son has hyper-mobility. He is 14 and very sporty, but when he grows his muscles can't keep up and become very vunerable when playing sports and he generally ends up in pain from hurting himself. He has been treated through the nhs on a number of occasions but due to the help my husband had for a torn shoulder we decided to go to Synergy Physiotherapy in St Johns, Woking. Ruth Stubbs saw him and explained his condition and gave him some exercises. She recognised that he needed help to build up his strength, so recommended that he see Andy at the same practice but in the gym. This was a great turning point for my son. When we saw Andy Cornelius, he explained what was needed and checked out my sons fitness with a review of the exercises Ruth had given him to do. He could see from this that he was able to do more in a safe way. But the main point was that he recognised his fear of not doing too much and hurting himself again. Andy explained that he was safe, he could see from his activity in the gym that he had the ability, but needed the confidence and right direction to build on the stability that the other exercises had given him. It was as if a light went on in Callum's head. He could do some sport, but only that recommended by Andy and that would be safe for him. After 3 visits in all Callum is now arranging basketball games with his friends and can play football. Thanks to both Ruth and Andy for giving my son his confidence back and the exercises to keep strong despite having hypermobility.
