Although our assessments are time limited, our Consultants follow a rigorous diagnostic process to assess patient's symptoms against each of the DSM-5 criteria. A considerable amount of information is collected from the pre-assessment forms, so that the Consultant is able to form a picture of the patient's background, and note the symptoms the patient is experiencing not just as an adult, but also that caused problems in their earlier life. This allows the Consultant to use the assessment itself to ask further questions or to ask the patient to give examples of how symptoms affect or impede the patient's daily living activities, whether at home, in school or at work.
