I was originally on Citalopram for depression. Having developed breast cancer, I was prescribed Tamoxifen, in order to reduce the risk of the breast cancer returning. However, the effect of the Tamoxifen is reduced by the Citalopram. The only antidepressant which can be taken with Tamoxifen is Efexor (Venaflexin). Since it cannot be prescribed by GPs, I had to be referred to a psychiatrist. Very inconvenient but worth the effort since I need the Tamoxifen for the breast cancer treatment and I couldn't have gone without an antidepressant.
