The duty of care offered by the specialist team is second to none. Unfortunately due to the high demand of emergency cases the team coped extremely well. To alleviate this problem more funding would be beneficial to help with the staffing issues as well as new equipment. If the unit was twice as big, it still would not be big enough until the above issues are rectified. Staff are doing 12 hour shifts and more which has been proven in our case when my father took a bad turn the sister on duty should have finished at 8 after handover did not leave until 9.30pm!!! Above and beyond the call of duty I am sure I am one of the lucky ones as my father is recovering well as not everyone can say the same which is soul destroying. I can only say that the staff involved need the recognition they deserve.
