10th January 2014

I was admitted into hospital on Tuesday 5 November, 2013 and remained there for 10 days - firstly on Ogwen Ward and then transferred to Tegid Ward. I had an internal infection, possibly due to a perforated appendix or colon and was severely dehydrated and weak. The care I received was excellent and after being given antibiotics and fluid intravenously I quickly started to recover. I subsequently attended the Day Surgery Unit on the 7 January, 2014, to undergo a colonoscopy - again, the care I received was excellent. I have 2 comments to make: i) Regarding the nursing staff - most nurses were gentle when attending to patients however, there were some who seemed to be in a hurry and therefore not so gentle - possibly not seeing the human being and the end of the equipment e.g. roughly ripping off the velcro blood pressure strap. ii) Meals and refreshments - the freshly made food was excellent however things like the jellies and yoghurt were horrible, cheap I would say with artificial sweetener taste. I make this comment as quite a few of us were dehydrated and found it difficult to drink enough fluids - a nice tasting jelly would have helped.
