Review of Emergency Department - WXH written by a patient
31st March 2018

The ambulance staff were great. The a&e nurses were rude and laid back. There was no sympathy towards my pain and until my sister approached a doctor the nurses were completely unaware my cannula had come out and was squirting liquid everywhere. The nurse was trying to run tests the doctor felt was unnecessary and kept starting things and then disappearing for 20 mins. I was moved to majors simply because there was no space in a&e and then left unmonitored without being seen or acknowledged for an hour and 15. When my sister approached who she assumed was doctor it was actually a trainee [with no badge] who was unable to make decisions or explainations without speaking to a nurse - unfortunately he lacked confidence, although I do understand that takes time. The nurse then finally changed my fluid bag after 45 mins, he didn’t advise me on what the bag was until it already connected. When my sisters complained and was finally able to get the attention of a doctor, she was advised I wasn’t acknowledged by a doctor when I arrived in majors because my assigned doctors shift had finished and I now needed to wait for someone from the medical team - she had no idea how long that would be. Even though I had been in majors for an hour and forty five minutes by this point she was confidently able to tell me this was the quietest night by far this year - so why was there such a delay in everything when there were empty beds and more staff than patients?!

Review of Elizabeth Coronary Care Unit (CCU) - WXH written by a patient
30th March 2018

I was admitted to Whipps Cross Hospital with chest pains shortly after midnight on a Sunday night. Just over a week later I was released from Bart's Hospital with a stent and a clean bill of health. Casualty was clean, calm and ordered; the staff couldn't have been more attentive. Doctors and nurses and the receptionist who admitted me, all listened to the problem and responded efficiently, and in doing so they saved me from potential heart muscle loss thanks to their prompt response. The hospital is clean and friendly; the staff are kind. Even the food is excellent. I can't speak of the care I received too highly.

I was treated in the A&E department at Whipps Cross. All staff were courteous and treatment was delivered swiftly and professionally. The fact that one member of staff, an emergency nurse specialist, coordinated treatment helped to make the whole process less daunting and engendered confidence. Also, the close proximity and professionalism of A&E X-ray services reduced treatment time.

Review of Haematology - WXH written by a patient
26th March 2018

Today, my appointment was cancelled in heamatology, no letter of cancellation was sent, and whilst waiting for administrative help, i recieved a voice mail to inform me of the cancellation. The appointment was important to me, due to the risks that are aasociated with my condition, as reflected in the concerns of the consultant. I feel my related problems have got worse, and put me at risk of heart problems. Seeing the doctor today was massively important. I have now been given an appointment 4 months away. There was no risk assessment done before telling me to go home. This is a negligence of care.

Review of Dermatology Outpatients - WXH written by a patient
25th March 2018

Excellent information at first consultation and all options discussed. Surgery explained clearly and again alternative options discussed before operation. At all times I was listened to and never felt any anxieties were dismissed. Whilst waiting for op in an unattended area Dr Sahota came out to reassure me I was in the correct place. He made me feel very calm during procedure and outcome is amazing. Scar on face barely visible. Good instructions about aftercare. I would highly recommend this department to anyone needing surgery for skin cancer. I was given all the information I needed, treated with consideration and superb skill.

Review of Endoscopy - WXH written by a patient
23rd March 2018

I arrived quite early (8.45 am) for my 9.15 am appointment for a Gastroscopy. Receptionist was very pleasant. The nursing staff prepared me and explained what was about to happen and put me at ease. Jennifer especially assured me when I asked her that she would tell me if cancer was found. My procedure was completed before 10.00am. Top marks to all the staff, - Veronica, Kiran(?), Janet, Sheryl and of course Jennifer who undertook the procedure. (I hope I've not left anyone out!). All made me feel quite relaxed especially considering the unpleasant feeling caused by the procedure. Results given to me before left at about 11.40am. Given advice on next step. Jennifer even advised that she had already requested me an abdominal ultrasound scan as I had complained of some pain 'lower down'. Great pro- activity! Only downside - I was told a biopsy was taken and results were OK but my Gastroscopy report said I only had a 'biopsy urease (CLO test)' (whatever that is?) but results are not yet known. This is a little worrying. Would have liked to know more. A slight breakdown in communication. Fingers crossed!

I was treated in A&E department today for a stabbed wound. The nurse Mario was very kind and professional. We liked the care that we received and the information we were given about. He did very good job for what we were greatful so much. Thus, the organisation is not very proper as we had to wait too long with bleeding wound to be seen by someone.

Review of Eye Treatment Centre - WXH written by a family member
19th March 2018

I am writing regarding the treatment my mother has received at the Whipps Cross. She is an elderly patient with glaucoma and associated complications which in the past year has been made worse by the lack of regular monitoring due to repeat appointment cancellations or not even been sent an appointment until it has been chased by her family member. As a result we have had to take her to A&E at least 6-7 times in the past year. Last appointment she had in February 2018 and at that point we were told by the doctors that she will need to be seen in 2 months time because one of the eye drops she needed to take was stopped and it was important that her pressure was monitored again as her pressure was very high previously. As we had not received appointment letter, I phoned to find out. After being given 4 wrong numbers to ring different teams, I finally managed to speak to someone in the appointment centre who said she would try and find out. She informed that my mother was not even put on any appointment lists and if I wanted to book then there was no appointment until mid July. She was very helpful and I found out from her that if I had not phoned then she would have not received any appointments and we would have just been left waiting. I understand that the eye centre is under enormous pressure but it would be helpful if the patients were kept informed so at least they could start making alternative arrangements. Most of your patients will be elderly and I hate to think of patients who have no one to chase up appointments.

All the clinical staff were friendly, professional and efficient that are a credit to the NHS. However I would love to mention the really lovely lady who booked me in at the front desk this morning (Window 3; black with glasses and long plaited hair). She had a such a warm and welcoming manner and a great sense of humour that made me feel more relaxed, despite my worries of my condition.
