Review of Highfield Unit Oxford
29th August 2018

I have never felt so alone and desperate for someone to listen. I want to get better and work with the team but they seem to be very stuck on working with me which is NOT the way it should be! However some staff have been very understanding and listened and fought my corner and I really hope that in the near future, things will get better.

I have just attended my review meeting with multidisciplinary team members. This meeting was supportive and has given me more hope for my future wellbeing in relation to further physical health investigations being requested around my head injury that triggered my ongoing mental health challenges. I was listened to and my concerns were heard and then dicsuued. Thank you .

The ward smells and the cleanliness is poor but the staff are amazing, Not one person was unhelpful or unkind, there are some really scary people on the ward but the staff make everyone feel safe as they are always there, More chairs on the corridor please thanks Matron Carol for putting the big chair in the corner not everyone wants to sit listening to MTV I really liked Shannon Dennis Guy and of course Matron. Rumi is a top man also Andras, I liked their photos on the wall and the fact people always introduced themselves to me when I was on obs I hated obs but I soon came off them thanks to Guy and Matron, the doctor Doesn’t come on the ward so you only see him briefly in ward round which I would have liked to see him more, Matron was kind and helped my family to understand what was happening, More chairs, sport and seats in the garden please

Review of Vaughan Thomas Ward written by a family member

My son has had several admissions to hospital but this was the first time on VT under the care of Matron Carol Gee and her team, this has been such a different experience for us as a family, the team have been amazing, the care brilliant and the support for us overwhelming, we struggled to visit due to our own health as well as our sone being so poorly and not very happy with us agreeing to his admission but Carol rang us every week to give updates and ask how we were and listened to us and our concerns. when we visit the nurses are all welcoming, always ask how was our journey and how we were and very supportive to our son The care is fantastic and the first time he or us his family have been so involved and especially when planning discharge the first time we have ever been asked our views and also informed of the discharge plans. It was great to meet the care coordinator at ward round and feel they were involved throughout. Dr Barrera such a kind man very interested in our son and genuinely car8ng thank you all so much a difficult time made bearable by an amazing team

Guy is a lovely bloke and great Nurse he always made time for me and made me feel valued and I always felt better after talking to him, the staff are really nice no one I don’t feel comfortable with, the ward isn’t a great place to be but they made the difference, they have a great boss in the Matron she was always around and always sorted out everyone’s problems There were people smoking on the ward and using drugs which I didn’t like and felt anxious about but Matron was very helpful and reassuring I like the way Guy and Paul call her Matron very respectful The HCA are all brilliant always willing to take people out for walks and smokes, always helpful and kind, My family found the family group really helpful and Olivia very supportive and kind Dr Barrera is very nice but there are too many others I can’t always remember their names but I didn’t find anyone to com0lain about Thank you for looking after me when I wasn’t always easy to look after I do appreciate everything you all did
