I attended 3 appointments at the Veincentre in Manchester. My first was for consultation, laser treatment and foam injections in both legs for varicose veins. Six weeks later at my follow up appointment my veins were still visible so I had additional foam injections. I decided to make a 3rd appointment eight months later as my legs hadn’t improved. At this appointment I was told there was nothing more that could be done to make the appearance of my legs look any better. The veins on the back of my leg were marked, but I was told no treatment was necessary as it could cause staining. I was also told the veins between my calf and and ankle were not varicose. I attended the Veincentre at a considerable cost mainly for cosmetic reasons so feel very disappointed with the results.

Response from Veincentre Manchester

We are very concerned to read this review and hear of your disappointment with the results of the treatment. It is difficult to comment without being able to refer to the specific clinical notes but from what you write it is likely that you have some persistent skin staining following the sclerotherapy. As no further treatment was advised there must have been no active varicose or other open veins that required injection. The staining is a common side effect that can take a long time to resolve but usually it fades with time. We always warn all patients of all potential complications and side effects and in fact are the only company we know of that has a webpage specifically devoted to the risks of vein treatment. There is nothing that we, or any other provider of vein treatments, can do to totally avoid this side effect in a few patients or to assess in advance who is more or less likely to experience this. We do hope and expect that the staining will fade further with time. We are very sorry that you feel the way you do especially as the vast majority of our patients are delighted with the results.
