The priory is good for mild to moderate psychiatric illnesses or addiction. I would not recommend for people suffering from effects of trauma, PTSD or any sort of psychotic illness. They are not equipped to deal with any sort of medical interventions, eg low blood sugars in people going through withdrawal etc. If you are suffering from depression, anxiety, low self esteem and similar some of the group therapies are helpful - sessions on how to be assertive, time management, and things like that. But to be honest I would recommend just reading a self help book, rather than paying £1000 a day for this. Oddly they usually have tall, big men working the night shift on the women’s ward, doing regular checks throughout the night....a lot of the woman on the ward found this extremely distressing...if you have had any sort of sexual abuse/rape, having a man walk unannounced every 15 minutes into your room whilst you are asleep isn’t the best thing for recovery. The ward can be quite noisy at night with regular patient checks, and not getting a good nights sleep makes a lot of the patients symptoms worse, and can come out of the priory in a worse state than they went in. Most of the staff are fantastic, really caring and empathetic. There are the few that aren’t (usually the younger ones, or any with less experience). If you have insurance and treatment is covered I would recommend, but if you are self funding I probably would try somewhere else.
