I was transferred to Liverpool Royal for a CT scan 4 days after giving birth. During my delivery the cord snapped and the placenta had to be manually removed. It turned out that I then caught an infection due to fragments of placenta still left inside me. When I was transferred to Liverpool royal, the behaviour from the staff was shocking. I had been given high amounts of strong medication, I was in a lot of pain and quite understandingly I was very anxious with having to be away from my baby. The staff treated me as is I was a scum bag, they made out that I was lying about the amount of pain that I was in and tried to accuse me of having post natal psychosis. They divulged aspects of untrue medical information to my partner of 6 months and acted with no companion, care or consideration in front of my partner and whilst I was treated alone. At one point during my time there I got of the stretcher to try and contact my partner to come in, I didn’t really know what I was doing as I had been given so much medication such as ketamine, morphine I just wanted someone with me. One nurse actually reeled me back to my bedside by my catheter. When I asked her why she did this and that this hurt, she accused me of lying and then another nurse also accused me of lying. After me becoming quite upset about this incident they then got a mental health nurse to come and talk to me and they tried to make out that I was mentally unwell. Once my partner arrived they told her untrue aspects of medical history. My partner reports that one nurse was trying to make out that I was not compliant when taking blood and she was very aggressive towards me despite the fact I was falling in and out of conciseness. She caused significant bruising on my arms where she had purposely dug the needle into my skin multiple times. Another time a nurse tried to inject me with lorazepam, in front of my partner despite there being no need for this injection as I was not aggressive ect just very distressed. Despite me refusing this injection they then persisted to get another staff member and both came in the room to intimidate me into having the injection. I was told I needed to shut up and be quite as there was someone dying in the room next door. I again refused the injection and it is a good job my partner was there other wise I dread to think what would have happened. After this I was then transferred back to Liverpool woman’s. Once I arrived the staff at the woman’s were very confused as to why I was accused of having post natal psychos and said that the way I was acting was due to me being in pain and being responsibly upset with the way I was treated. It turns out I did have an infection, I was given antibiotics then I went home a couple of days later. What went on at Liverpool royal is unbelievable and very scary. It has impacted me significantly and made me very very scared. What happened was very cruel and I hope it doesn’t happen to anyone else who has just had a baby. This made the first few weeks with my baby very difficult as I was still traumatised from these events. This event actually made me consider and think what if I did have post natal psychosis? Is this how they actually treat people with that mental condition. It’s very scary that society’s most vulnerable would be treated in such a way for a condition that is not their fault.
