29th December 2018

I was taken ill suddenly on Thursday, December 20th, admitted to ward C7 West by 2 am on Friday 21st and stayed until the 26th with a plan for further care once results are in as the cause is still unknown. Within 24 hours I had an ultrasound, X-ray and CT Scan, followed by an appointment for a biopsy on Monday 24th. All staff that I came into contact with were extremely professional, polite and caring. The care provided by the nurses on the ward was impeccable and whereas I feel it slightly unfair to single out one because the care was so great overall, Nicola really went above and beyond. Due to the Christmas period, there were less staff but it didn't impact on the care I received and all of them did their best to get me out on Christmas Day to see my young boys. I feel very honoured to have observed the community, team-work and support between the staff to run the ward, it was extremely heartwarming. Whilst in C7 West a gentleman became lethargic and fell to the floor outside my bay, within 3 minutes of the first nurse call, 9+ nurses were attending him and 9 on-call doctors had appeared from all over the hospital to care for the gentleman. It was really amazing to watch the reality of what these people do every day which we are not aware of. I wish I could have filmed it to show people who moan about waiting times when using the NHS as they are saving lives all day every day. I feel extremely upset to think that privatising the NHS is on the cards, and would recommend fighting for it like I will be doing with my family. What an amazing service and what amazing staff.
