Generally there seems to be more ward staff available here than at the Acute Hospital in the nearby town of Redditch. Sadly it is felt than the ward environment is NOT dementia friendly, or judged by others not dementia friendly enough. Patients who have dementia may not be encouraged and helped enough to eat and drink - so becoming dehydrated and lose weight. Patients who require physiotherapy to improve their mobility might not get enough support on a daily basis. At weekends and on Bank Holidays it appears that patients needing regular mobility exercise including physiotherapy are unlikely to get it. At least one patient I know, who was admitted for a short period of rehabilitation, was eventually discharged (after delays), three months later in a far worse state physically and mentally than at the time of admission.
