My mother spent 6 months in Poole Hospital after a bad ankle break. She suffered from quite severe dementia and died there in 2008. There were some nurses who treated her with kindness, others who seemed to try to ignore her calls for help. Many times I saw her food tray taken away untouched, I didn't see her receive help with eating and noticed wrapped packages of food which she was unable to open. I didn't think the facility was suitable for a dementia patient. She wasn't able to operate the call button. I saw dust swirling around the floor under her bed. The morning after Mum died, my father went to the hospital to visit her and was told she had died. Nobody phoned him at home. It was a big shock to him.
