We were triaged quickly but then left to sit for nearly 3 hours without any update of when we were likely to be seen despite on the board in the childrens waiting room specifying 1hr wait. There was only one other child in the queue in front of us. When we finally did get seen by the doctor we were sent straight off for an xray. We could have had this in the 3 hours we were sitting and waiting and then the doctor would have had the results when he first saw us rather than us having to wait further to be seen again by him. If did seem that the hospital was very short staffed. By the time we left there were four other children who were waiting to see the doctor. You could use a junior doctor for minor cases like ours, which would free up the senior doctor to see the more serious cases. Staff should be coming into the waiting area to check on patients, and provide updates and reasons for the long delay. When we have been here in the past the longest time we have had to wait was 2 hours. We probably would have been better going to Haywards Heath A&E.
