I am writing as a carer, in fact the sister of the patient. We have visited the clinic on a number of occasions. More recently the reception area has changed; it is no longer manned, no doubt as a result of cuts. On arrival you register your presence by pressing a bell. I feel this is quite an alienating experience for someone who is highly anxious as my brother is and possibly mental health patients in general may be. There is literally no one around and it wasn't possible to tell whether our arrival had been acknowledged or not. This added to my brother's stress levels. The waiting area for patients is just inside the entrance to the building so you are still sitting outside the main area with no sign of a member of staff. The area is tiny and very cramped. There is no sense of any privacy between you and other waiting patients. There has been very little attempt at making the area more patient friendly either by providing more reading material or any pictures etc. The approach to the building looked sad and neglected with litter left lying..empty plastic bottles etc. It wouldn't take a lot of effort to pick them up just to create a more positive environment. Our experience with staff members once beyond the secure doors was positive and we have no issues with the care received.
