Appalling, complete lack of humanity/ compassion from most nursing & medical staff although anaesthetist & student nurses were great. Embarrassing watching non-English speaking families yelled at unnecessarily by nursing staff when they didn't understand (shouting louder always helps foreign language acquisition!) Many mistakes made but not acknowledged, we felt lucky our baby got out alive. Staff need to listen to patients/families & communicate with them, learning a few basic social skills wouldn't go amiss either! There are some fantastic, caring NHS hospitals out there, this is not one of them, they just have more effective PR, & fundraising teams & can cherry-pick cases If you want good care, go elsewhere if you can - there are many unsung heroes in under-resourced regional hospitals across the UK, they might not have celebrity endorsements, but you & your child are less likely to come out traumatised as we did!
