My suggestion to any stroke patients would be: "Wear a Bodycam", (£30 from Amazon/Argos). I was a patient at the "Acute Stroke Ward "Gwenllian", I had just had a stroke, and didn't know if I would ever work again. I was yelled at (twice) mocked and belittled, I left an emotional wreck, and am still feeling the consequences. Incredibly three external investigations were thwarted as, the two nurses in question "could not be identified", this despite each having vey distinctive appearances, and there being only about 10 female nursing staff on duty at the time. If I would have worn a bodycam these nurses would be identified, and probably would have behaved in a professional manner. I must say, one of the nursing staff was professional and polite. All the non nursing staff, physios, OTs, doctors etc, were professional and polite. The delinquent behaviour of the nursing staff on Gwenllian, was in marked contrast to the staff behaviour I experienced in other sections of the NHS. I feel that stroke patients, are generally considered as "cognitively impaired" therefore can be bullied with impunity. Trials have shown that staff and patients behave better, in the presence of bodycams. Introducing them, as a matter of course to all staff, at least, would greatly reduce the, frequency of abuse. and hence the emotional and physical damage for patients. Not to mention the many many hours spent by hospital staff, in dealing with patient complaints. I know there would be some privacy issues, but I understand many NHS staff already wear bodycams.
