I called the 111 service at 5.30 am and was treated with respect and concern and within 5 mins had a return call from the Dr on call at CHOC who invited us straight into the hospital for a consultation. He was very professional, friendly, courteous and reassuring. There are several possible causes for my husband's symptoms and having taken bloods etc we are asked to go back at 12 noon for results and further consultation. A urine infection is the most probable cause but the Dr has wisely, in our opinion, held back from prescribing anti- biotics until he sees the results, as there could be another cause. We are very impressed with the 111 response and system and also with the speedy response from the hospital "on call "team. I appreciate that at 5.30 am. on a Bank holiday morning it was possibly less busy than at other times, but it has illustrated how valuable our NHS service is and how well it can work in what can be stressful circumstances for some people, especially the elderly. We'd like to register our sincere gratitude to all concerned.
